A filling is a procedure used to repair teeth compromised by decay or structural damage. Fillings can be made from a variety of materials, including gold, silver, composite, porcelain, and glass ionomer. Each has their own unique set of pro’s and con’s and should be selected based on your budget, oral health requirements and aesthetic preferences. For example, gold fillings are highly durable and typically last well over a decade but are also costly and more noticeable than other available options. To preserve your fillings, be sure to schedule regular dental cleanings and practice good oral hygiene, brushing and flossing twice daily and using antibacterial mouthwash at least once a day.
